Eway, Stripe, and PayPal: New payment options to streamline holiday checkouts

23 Oct 2024 7 min read

In recent weeks, we’ve released numerous updates that allow your Neto stores to sell even more this holiday season. These updates include some highly anticipated enhancements to our payment integrations that make them more modern and secure.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve added support for Eway, a highly-requested payment option, as well as updates to Stripe and PayPal.

While Neto integrates with numerous global payment gateways, Stripe, Paypal and (now) Eway are among the most popular for our customers — and they’re the ones we recommend most for a seamless customer experience.

Here’s what’s new

Eway is available in Neto!

Eway is a leading global payment gateway, especially in the Australian market. We’re listening intently to the needs of our customers, and we’re proud to launch this option. As of today, you can enable Eway in the Neto Admin alongside all our other payment options.

Increased Stripe Payment reliability

We’ve improved our integration with Stripe Payments, including updates to Google Pay and Apple Pay, significantly boosting the reliability of these popular payment options — just in time for the holiday shopping rush.

Additionally, we’ve resolved an issue some retailers were having with “uncaptured" payments, particularly for Afterpay users, enhancing reliability and improving overall customer satisfaction: since making these changes, customers have seen 3-10x fewer errors.

Enhanced PayPal Checkout stability

We’ve further increased the reliability of PayPal Checkout, allowing your customers to complete their purchases without a hitch.

Take action to improve your payment gateways before the busy season

What does a payment gateway do?

A payment gateway allows customers to make credit card purchases in your online store. It’s a bridge between a customer’s bank and your merchant account that facilitates the authorization and completion of payments.

When a customer makes a purchase on an ecommerce site, the payment gateway securely captures and encrypts the payment details, including credit card numbers and other sensitive information. This data is then transmitted to the acquiring bank, which communicates with the customer’s issuing bank to verify whether the transaction is legitimate, and funds are available. Once the transaction is approved, the payment gateway informs the merchant, and the funds are transferred to the merchant’s account.

Key functions of a payment gateway

  • Authorisation: Validating customer payment information and confirming availability of funds
  • Encryption: Securing sensitive data to prevent fraud and ensure privacy
  • Settlement: Facilitating the transfer of funds from the customer’s bank to the merchant’s account
  • Fraud prevention: Implementing security measures to identify and mitigate fraudulent transactions

Understanding payment gateways is essential for any online business owner, as they significantly impact user experience, security, and conversion rates.

Supported credit and debit card payment processors in Neto

Payment processors handle the authorisation of payments by securely transmitting transaction details between the customer's bank and the merchant's bank. Payment processors support various payment methods, including credit and debit cards, digital wallets, and sometimes even BNPL offerings.

Stripe

With Stripe’s payment processing solution, you can instantly accept credit card payments and manage stored cards for convenience. Neto also offers Stripe Radar for robust fraud detection, as well as support for BNPL options through Afterpay and Klarna. You can also accept payments via digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, along with 3D Secure authentication and verification to enhance security for every transaction.

Eway

Eway provides a straightforward way for businesses to accept payments, supporting major cards like Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX. It offers built-in fraud and security tools, flexible pay-as-you-go options, and flat rate pricing. They also ensure fast 1-3 days settlements and provide 24/7 local support.

PayPal

PayPal Checkout offers a range of features designed to simplify online payments. Users can quickly make purchases using their PayPal account or their credit/debit cards without leaving the merchant’s site. It supports one-touch payments for faster checkout and provides options for Buy Now Pay Later. PayPal also includes robust security measures, such as fraud protection and 3D Secure authentication.

Available wallet payment solutions: Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal

While payment gateways handle the transaction processes, the way customers choose to pay can vary. Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal Checkout are three popular digital payment solutions, each with unique features.

Digital wallets, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), and payment processors each serve distinct purposes. Digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal store payment information securely, allowing users to make purchases easily without re-entering card details.BNPL enables customers to buy items immediately and pay for them over time, often in interest-free installments via services like Afterpay, Klarna or PayPal’s Pay in 4. Payment processors, such as Stripe and Eway help facilitate credit and debit card transactions and offer a host of fraud prevention tools.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet service that allows users to make payments using their Apple devices. It uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for in-store purchases, and it can also be used for online transactions.

Key features:

  • Security: Uses tokenization, meaning actual card details aren’t shared with merchants. Instead, a unique device account number is generated.
  • User experience: Offers a seamless checkout experience within apps and websites, requiring only Touch ID or Face ID for verification.
  • Improved up time: Neto developers have reduced checkout failure for Apple Pay by over 90%, making it an incredibly reliable payment gateway for Neto customers.

Key features:

  • Versatility: Works on a wider range of devices, including Android smartphones and watches.
  • Integration: Can be linked to loyalty programs, offering users rewards on purchases, enhancing the shopping experience.
  • Ease of use: Over 70% of the world uses Android, so this payment option allows for the majority of users to quickly and easily pay.

  • Easy setup: With just a few clicks, you can set up the latest PayPal Checkout on your Neto site.
